INSPIRATION/CONCEPT ART

Upon deciding to collaborate together on this project, our areas of interest complemented each other so we were able to divide the work equally and support one another. Discussing through various stories and ideas, we settled for an uplifting and fantastical music video style of animation.

Some of our greatest inspiration for this animation came from our shared love of Asian animation and music, and Disney animations. We particularly took inspiration from Fantasia 2000, Big Hero 6, and the Paperman animation short. We enjoy the fluidity and energy in 2D animation, so we strived towards a 3D and 2D mixed animation for this project.

The music used in Reverie comes from Japanese singer, Eve's song, 心海 (shinkai), whose music we both enjoy. The name of this song directly translates to "Heart's Ocean" and it's also a play on words for "deep ocean", also read as shinkai in Japanese, which we felt was both fitting and inspirational to our animation's theme.
